Cervical Smear Awareness Week
Posted or Updated on 18 Jun 2022
Cervical Smear Awareness Week aims to highlight the need for regular smear tests. This should be every 3 years for ages between 25 and 50 years old and every 5 years for ages between 50 and 65 years old. Please contact the surgery to book your appointment now if it is due.
During the appointment a small sample of cells will be taken from your cervix. This will be tested for the presence of HPV (human papillomavirus). If HPV is present then action can be taken to protect against it causing cancer of the cervix.
You will be notified of the results within about 2 weeks by letter
